2015/2016 Skyline Competitive Tryouts
Tryouts Overview
When your players moves from into the U11+ program, you have a choice between two different programs. We want to provide your player the most developmentally appropriate home to enhance his/her skills to become the best player possible. We believe this philosophy creates a well rounded soccer player, and most importantly, individual.
Below you will find all general information regarding U11+ program options, tryout days, and the post-tryout process.
Your player must register for tryouts by Sunday, May 24 if he or she wishes to attend and play at the Select level. Tryouts are 2 days for most age groups, and both days are required. This is to ensure our staff gets the most amount of information possible to make the best decision for that child, and the club.
Players who cannot attend both days of tryouts, need to contact Director of Coaching Neal Didonna at Neal@skylinesoccer.org.

Tryout Operations
Players are encouraged to show up early for check-in for the 1st tryout date to avoid any potential delays interfering with your child’s experience. Upon arrival, Skyline staff will check your child in. Please come prepared and have your child in the appropriate attire; cleats, shin-guards, appropriate sized ball, and plenty of fluids. Your child will be given a number for quicker recognition by coaches.
After check-in, players will accompanied by staff until the tryout begins. We respectfully ask that all parents remain at the check-in tent, or in the designated parent area, to give your child and staff the appropriate environment to perform. Parents are welcome to drop their child off and return upon completion of tryouts as well.
The tryout will consist of a warm-up portion, technical exercises, small sided playing, and large format playing. Staff will be evaluating players on the 4 pillars of the game.
1. Technical/Skill: The player’s over all ability to execute a given soccer task. (Dribbling, passing, shooting/finishing, etc)
2. Tactical: The ability for the player to process the game and make proper decisions on, and off the ball.
3. Physical: The players ability to maintain the appropriate physical demands of the sport.
4. Psychological: Identifying the psychological aptitude, resiliency, and competitive nature of each player.
Goalkeepers
Goalkeepers will have a separate section for tryouts. All players U12+ that tryout as a goalie, will be placed as a goalie for their primary position. This specialized position requires a specific developmental track, and we want our players set up for the most success possible. Coaches will operate that their keepers are prepared for full-time goalkeeper, and adjust as necessary for given situations that are best for their team.

Post-Tryout Process
Phone Calls
Skyline has a very specific way of doing tryout phone calls. If your child does not receive a phone call immediately, or at the same time as another friend, there is no cause to panic. This is just a reflection of how we do phone calls, not of your child’s ability. All players will receive a phone call regardless of team placement. This includes recreational players.
Players will be called within a maximum of 72 hours after the final tryout date with the offer from the coach of the team he/she is placed on. Some players will be called after the first tryout day. From here you will have 24 hours from the time of the call to accept or decline the spot offered.
Team Acceptance/Payment
Once the spot has been accepted, within the 24 hour time frame, Skyline will confirm placement in the registration system and the first payment ($350) will be due. 1st payment is due at the time of acceptance, and the final is due by August 1st.
Acceptance to a team also means signing the parent/player contract at the post-tryout meeting. This will aid in expectations for your player and you as a parent as your child grows in the competitive program.
Post-Tryout Meetings
The goal of the post-tryout meetings is to inform parents and coaches with all information necessary to ensure each family understands team operations moving forward into the Fall Season. Each team will attend a meeting with their coach and DOC and go over tournaments, payments, as well as uniform sizing.
