The Junior Select Program designed to offer U9 and U10 players a more competitive level of play, and to better prepare players for the Select, or competitive,
Program at U11 under the guidance of professional training. Junior Select teams participate in the Intermediate Leagues. Teams play eight versus eight formats with goalkeepers for
games.
The Junior Select Program will focus on the development of the individual player. Skyline will use age appropriate training methods to create the 'complete player.'
The complete player excels in four major areas of concentration: technical ability, tactical intelligence, physical attributes, and psychological elements.
By developing the complete player, the team will be made up of players who work together to achieve team goals. While an emphasis on winning is not a main priority
for these age groups, a competitive environment will help develop the player through successes and defeats within the game. Winning and player development are not mutually exclusive events;
instead, Junior Select believes winning is a by product of player development.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ryan Moore.
Player Expectations
At this age, players should expect to play a minimum of 50% of each match.
Exceptions may occur at the coach's discretion for disciplinary reasons such as absenteeism, tardiness, or general behavior issues. Players are expected to be at all games and training sessions.
Players who are unable to attend a training session or match must let the coach know in advance. Players are expected to wear cleats, shin guards, black shorts, black socks, and grey training shirt
at all training sessions and matches. Players are also expected to bring an inflated soccer ball and water to all training sessions and matches. Junior Select players use a size four (4) soccer
ball.
Parent Expectations
Parents are encouraged to support their player and team in a fashion that breeds
a positive and respectful learning environment. As such, it is imperative that coaches are able to teach and instruct the
players in games and at training. To best ensure a positive learning environment, parents should refrain from directional coaching on the sidelines while applauding positive plays and encouraging
effort. After all, parents are best role models for our players: please respect our players, coaches, opponents, and referees.
Coach Expectations
The Junior Select program is a mixture of professional coaching and volunteer
coaching. Teams are trained twice a week by a paid, qualified professional coach assigned by Skyline. Volunteer coaches are expected to help the paid coaches during training sessions and will be in
charge of match day functions. Volunteer coaches and paid coaches will focus on the individual players during matches and training; not the results of the team.
Junior Select teams will play 7-8 games per season. Each team will practice two times a week for 75 minutes (training days, times, and location determined by Skyline). Matches are played in a home/away format with opponents. Some travel outside of the Denver and surrounding areas may be required for games. Matches are refereed by certified referees at this age group.
