Skyline Select will focus on the development of the individual player using age appropriate training methods to create the 'complete player.' The complete player excels in four major areas of concentration: technical ability, tactical intelligence, physical attributes, and psychological elements.
By developing the complete player, the team will be made up of players who work together to achieve team goals. For these age groups, the stress of winning is increased and the competitive environment will help develop the player through the successes and defeats within the game. Skyline believes winning is a by product of player development.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ryan Moore.
At the U11-U14 age groups, players must make a two season commitment (fall and spring) each fall season. For the U15-U18 age groups, players must make a one season commitment prior to the beginning of their specified season. Games are played on Saturdays and some Sundays, with times varying throughout the season. Games are played in a home/away format with opponents. In the Select program, families are expected to be able to travel outside of the Denver area for away games. Home games will be played at Kennedy Soccer Complex, Harvard Gulch, and Ash Grove. Practice is two to three times per week for 90-120 minutes at a location and time determined by Skyline. All of our practice fields are located in the southeast region of Denver. Games are refereed by certified referees at this age group.
Player expectations
At these age groups, playing time is shared, but it is not equal. Playing time is at the coaches' discretion and takes into consideration absenteeism, tardiness, or general behavior issues in
addition to skill of the player, quality of opponent, and competition. Players are expected to be at all games and training sessions. Players who are unable to attend a training session or match
must let the coach know in advance. Players are expected to wear cleats, shin guards, black shorts, black socks, and gray training shirt at all training
sessions and games. Players are also expected to bring an inflated soccer ball and water to all training sessions and games. Shin guards are available at the Skyline office as well as most
sporting goods stores. Select players' age U11-U12 use a size four (4) soccer ball and players age U13 and older use a size five (5) soccer ball.
Parent expectations
Parents are encouraged to support their player and team in a fashion that breeds a positive and respectful learning environment. As such, it is imperative that coaches are able to teach/instruct
the game to players in games and at practice. To best ensure a positive learning environment, parents should refrain from directional coaching on the sidelines while applauding positive plays and
encouraging effort. After all, parents are best role models for our players: please respect our players, coaches, opponents, and referees.
