Are you a parent of a Munchkin and wish you could have signed him or her up for an indoor session?! We have had a few spots open up for the Monday Munchkin Indoor Session from 6:00 - 6:45pm. The session runs from now until March 26. Please give Liz O'Donnell a call (303.691.5662) if you'd like to register!
The Grasshoppers league is the youngest a child can join soccer at Skyline Soccer Association. This league is designed for the very beginner player and kids ages 2 1/2 to 4 are encouraged to join. Players must be a least 2 1/2 at the start of the program. The concept of this program is to get kids out and get them active. We place an emphasis on having fun, learning and meeting friends! We currently have programs year-round. Especially in the Grasshoppers program, parent involvement is key in developing a fun, lasting relationship with the game of soccer. Parents may be asked to participate in certain drills to facilitate a better experience for all.
The Munchkins league is also considered a beginner course to the game of soccer for 4 to 5 year olds. It is very similar to the Grasshopper league with a stronger emphasis on teaching the basics of soccer. Again, the concept of the program is to get kids out and get them active while having fun, learning and meeting friends. Like our Grasshopper program, we also offer Munchkin programs year-round!
In the fall of 2011, we had over 550 kids involved in these programs. Please register early as spots will fill up quickly!
For spring, summer and fall seasons, the Grasshopper and Munchkin Program is held at Veterans Park (I-25 and University), Cranmer Park (1st and Bellaire) and Hampden Heights (Hampden and Dayton).
For our winter season, we hold all sessions at our office which is located at 2370 S. Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80222. For more information regarding our winter indoor season, please click here!
- The cost is $65 per season for a six week session. You must register for each season seperately. You are eligible for a discount is you choose to sign up for multiple sessions within a season. Please contact our office for more information.
- A jersey is provided by Skyline and it is yours to keep - please wear it each week!
- Each player is required to purchase and wear shinguards each week. These can be found at any Dick's Sporting Goods retail location.
- We assign 7 - 10 kids per group and color code them by jersey.
- We have no more then 14 groups per session.
- One head coach and one assistant coach are needed for each group.
- Four Club Coaches will be on hand to help/assist in practices.
- Weekly drills will be emailed to all volunteer coaches by the Thursday of each week.
- Additional make-up weeks are scheduled directly following the end of each season if there are weather-related cancellations.
- Balls, cones, and pinnies are provided - size 3 soccer balls are used.
- The first four weeks are practices and games. The last two weeks are games only for Munchkins and practice and games for Grasshoppers.
- The Grasshopper and Munchkin Program is held at Veterans Park (I-25 and University), Cranmer Park(1st and Bellaire) and Hampden Heights (Hampden and Dayton)
WHEN DOES THE SPRING 2012 SEASON BEGIN?
Our spring season kicks off on Saturday, March 31! This year, we're offering programs on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, in addition
to our Saturday morning program. For a more complete schedule of available sessions, please click here.
WHEN WILL I GET INFORMATION ABOUT THE UPCOMING PROGRAM?
Usually, an email is sent out four weeks prior to the first day to let everyone know that they are all registered and
to sit tight until more information is provided. Roughly two weeks prior to the start, a letter is sent out and an email is sent out as well describing the program in great detail. About one week
prior, we send out information regarding team placement.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO WE NEED?
All players need shinguards, water and weather appropriate clothing. Cleats are not needed at this level - just good athletic shoes. Soccer balls (size 3) will be available for all players to use
at the field.
WHERE DO WE FIND SHINGUARDS?
You can find shinguards at Dick's Sporting Goods. They do make
shinguards for kids this young - and here's a link to a pair that
we recommend!
WHERE ARE THE INDOOR SESSIONS HELD?
Our indoor sessions are held right here at our office, located at 2370 S. Colorado Blvd. We're located between Iliff and Dickenson, next
to the Dairy Queen.
THE WEATHER TOMORROW LOOKS QUESTIONABLE - HOW DO WE KNOW IF OUR SESSION IS CANCELLED?
Not a problem. If the weather looks really bad, we may contact everyone the night before. If the weather comes in during the night, please look at our home page for information on closures. You
can also call our weather line at 720.317.2882. We will also email everyone first thing in the morning if the fields are closed.
WE WANT TO PLAY WITH A FRIEND/COACH, HOW DO WE DO THAT?
It is very simple to get on your friends team. First, make sure you both sign up for the same program and before all deadlines. Second, there is a spot when going through the online registration
process that ask for friend requests. You request your friend and have them request you. You can also request a favorite coach or a favorite color. We do our absolute best to try and accomodate
all requests.
HOW MANY SESSIONS PER YEAR ARE THERE?
As of January 2012, the Grasshopper and Munchkin program is year-round! We offer an indoor season from January-March, a spring season from March-May, summer camp programs in June and July, and a
fall program from September-October.
I AM ON THE WAIT LIST. NOW WHAT DO I DO?
We do our best to accomodate as many children as we can, but at some point, we have to close it down to make sure those that are registered have a great experience. Please give our office a call
to be placed onto a waitlist. Sometimes individuals will back out which allows us to accept additional players.
MY CHILD DOESN'T SEEM TO BE EXCELLING LIKE THE OTHER CHILDREN. SHOULD I STOP COMING?
Soccer is one of the first sports children can play and additionally it is one of the first team sports they will play. Often times, children are shy and they cling to mom or dad. That is ok. It
takes some kids a bit longer than others to get adapted to the sports social environment. They will eventually come around, they just need some additional time and some added help from mom or
dad.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH PROGRAM I SHOULD SIGN UP FOR?
You should be two and a half at the start of the program. Grasshoppers is for two and a half year olds and three year olds and Munchkins is for four and five year olds. Some five year olds will
need to play in the U6 Recreational division.
HOW DO WE KNOW WHICH TEAM WE ARE ON?
About one week prior to the first session, an email will be sent out regarding which team you are on. The email will also remind you which program you signed up for, at which time and at which
park. The email will also contain information about who your coach is.
I WANT TO GET CONTACT INFORMATION FOR OUR TEAM. HOW DO I DO THAT?
You can get team contact information by logging into the Bonzi registration system from the Skyline home page and clicking on the team
name next to your child's name. This will give you the coach's contact information, your team name and names and contact information for all the players.
WHAT IF WE WANT TO SWITCH TEAMS?
Sometimes the child does not get placed on the correct team, or they didn't know some of their friends were playing, etc. Please let us know if this is the case. Often times we leave one spot on
teams for cases such as this. We will do our best to accomodate the move, but cannot guarantee anything. Please contact us so we can talk about the possibility.
ARE THE TEAMS COED OR GENDER SPECIFIC?
We appreciate gender specific teams, but sometimes the players want to play with kids of other genders. Each session usually entails about 1/3 boys, 1/3 girls and 1/3 coed teams. In the
scrimmages, we try to play boys vs. boys, girls vs. girls and coed teams vs. coed teams. We do our best to not play boy teams vs. girl teams, but the coed teams will play against the boy teams or
the girl teams.
DO WE NEED TO GET A UNIFORM?
No, the uniform is provided to you on the first day and it is yours to keep.
HOW OFTEN DO WE MEET?
The program runs for six consecutive weeks. If we have to cancel due to weather, we will add additional weekends on. The only time you meet is during your specific time slot. There are no
practices or games outside that specific time.
I WANT TO COACH, BUT THIS WOULD BE MY FIRST TIME AND I AM NERVOUS. SHOULD I DO IT?
Of course you should! Everyone may be a bit nervous when they first start. We email out to you exactly what to do each week and how the drills should be run, so limited soccer knowledge is ok.
The one thing we require of our coaches is that they are enthusiastic and enjoy being around kids!
WHERE ARE THE SESSIONS HELD?
Right now we have three locations for this program. The first is at Veterans Park, located at I-25 and University. The second is at Cranmer Park, located three blocks east off of Colorado and
1st. The third is at Hampden Heights, located just north of S Dayton St and E Girard Avenue.
CAN I GO ON THE FIELD AND BE INVOLVED?
Yes, often times the kids need additional help. Please step in and help your child if they need the additional support and help.
WHERE CAN I PURCHASE PICTURES?
You can go online and view your pictures at www.coloradocandids.com. You can also purchase your pictures on there as well.
Our sponsor, SmashBurger, offers 1/2 priced ice cream shakes to all players in uniform on game days! Reward your little Grasshopper or Munchkin with a treat to celebrate a job well done! For a list of SmashBurger locations, click here!
