Program Overview

The Grashoppers league is the youngest a child can join soccer at Skyline Soccer Association. This league is designed for the very beginner player and kids ages 2 1/2 to 4 are encouraged to join. Must be a least 2 1/2 at the start of the progarm. The concept of this program is to get kids out and get them active. Emphasis is on having fun, learning and meeting friends. We currently have programs in the fall, spring and summer. Especially in the Grasshoppers program, parent involvement is key in developing a fun, lasting relationship with the game of soccer. Parents may be asked to participate in certain drills to facilitate a better experience for all.

The Munchkins league is also considered a beginner course to the game of soccer for 4 to 5 year olds. It is very similar to the Grasshopper league with a little more emphasis on teaching the basics of soccer. Again, the concept of the program is to get kids out and get them active while having fun, learning and meeting friends. We currently have programs in the fall, spring and summer.

All kids need to have shinguards and appropriate shoes (tennis shoes or cleats).

In the spring of 2010, we had over 300 kids involved in these programs. Please register early as spots will fill up quickly.

The Grasshopper and Munchkin Program is mainly held at Veterans Park, on the northwest corner of I-25 and University, but we are adding a second location at Cranmer Park, on the northeast corner of 1st ave and Bellaire St. Both locations have limited spots available.

How the Program Works:

  • Cost is $60 per season and you must register for each season seperately
  • Jersey's are provided by Skyline.
  • We assign 7 - 9 kids per group and color code them with a t-shirt, this shirt must be worn every week
  • We have no more then 12 groups per session
  • One head coach and one assistant coach are needed for each group
  • 3 Club Coaches will be on hand to help/assist in practices
  • Weekly drills will be emailed to all volunteer coaches every week (Thursdays at the latest)
  • 6 week program (Week 6 is always games), weeks added on due to weather cancellations
  • Balls/cones/pennies are provided - size 3 soccer balls are used
  • Registration fees are $60.00 per season
  • The first four weeks are practices and games, the last two weeks are only games
  • The Grasshopper and Munchkin Program is mainly held at Veterans Park, on the northwest corner of I-25 and University, but we are adding a second location at Cranmer Park, on the northeast corner of 1st ave and Bellaire St. Both locations have limited spots available.

Volunteer To Coach:

Coaching for Grasshoppers and Munchkins is very fun and rewarding. For many kids, this is the first time they will touch a soccer ball. But don't fret, we will be there with you every step of the way. We will have a minimum of 2 Club Coaches at the fields on Saturday. They are there to assist you in whatever you need from them or if you need them to take over for a minute, they can do that as well.

You don't need to be a soccer expert to coach at this level. In fact, Skyline will email out to you each week exactly what we are doing that Saturday and how to run the drills successfully. On site to assist you, the Club Coaches will guide you through the season and hopefully introduce you to a lasting position as a youth soccer coach.

One head coach and one volunteer coach will receive a refund for their registration fees after the start of the season.
