Skyline Soccer strives to provide our players with the most for their game. When your players moves from the U8 to U9 program, you have a choice between different programs.

All of our spring Skyline U8 players will be assessed for their fall U9 soccer season. We want to provide your player the most developmentally appropriate home to enhance his/her skills to become the best player possible.

Below you will find all general information regarding U9 program options, assessment days, and transition meeting dates.

Assessments will be taken by a Skyline Staff Coach throughout the spring season at a scheduled practice, game, and at assessment days.Your player must register for assessments by Sunday, May 10 if he or she wishes to attend and play at the Jr. Select Blue or White level. Players are strongly encouraged to attend if considering Jr. Select Black.

All U9 teams play 8v8 with 10-13 players on a team

All U9 home games are held at Kennedy Soccer (roughly 4 home & 4 away games a season)

U9 Recreational teams remain in the same uniform kit as U8 players

U9 Jr. Select teams are required to wear the Jr. Select uniform kit and their gray training shirt at practices

Assessments will take place in-season for all players at one practice and one game. If your player is looking to play at the Jr Select level (pre-competitive) he/she must attend the two Assessment Days assigned to be considered for the Jr Select program. Registration for Assessment Days is free and will be open until Sunday, May 10.

  • This team will be formed by team/friend requests, or an entire U8 Recreational team looking to move up to U9 and stay together.
  • This team will have a volunteer parent coach for 1-2 practices a week and games on Saturdays, and will compete in the Recreational Division.

  • The Recreational program in Skyline is designed to continue the long tradition of Skyline’s fun, community atmosphere that has made this program “The Heart of Denver Youth Soccer Since 1965″.
  • Uniforms are the same as the U8 uniform. If you are new to Skyline or would like to replace uniform pieces click here. Full uniform kit is $55 + shipping.
  • U9/U10 Recreational teams participate in Colorado Soccer Association (CSA) Recreational Leagues. Teams play eight versus eight (8v8) format with goalkeepers for games. U9/U10 Recreational teams will play 7 – 8 games per season.
  • Each team will practice one-two times a week with their volunteer coach.
  • Games are played in a home/away format with opponents. Some travel outside of Denver and surrounding areas may be required for games.
  • Games are refereed by certified referees at this age group.  Assistant Referees are not guaranteed and in instances where there are no Assistant Referees, each team will be asked to provide a volunteer referee.
  • The spring season runs from March – May, and the fall season runs from August – October. During the summer and winter months, we do offer camps and clinics. For more information go to our Camps and Clinics page, found under More Programs in the menu above.

After players have registered, the Skyline staff will build out all of our teams. Here is some insight into the process:

    Does the player anticipate what is going to happen next? How quickly can the player learn new tactical topics?
  3. Player’s commitment level.
    Is the player eager to learn? Is the player interested in the sport and improving?

  • This team will be formed by team/friend requests or an entire U8 Recreational team wanting to stay and move together into U9, and seeking SKILLS training.
  • This team will have a volunteer parent coach for 1-2 practices a week and games on Saturdays, a SKILLS trainer 1 time a week, and will compete in the Recreational or Intermediate Division based on the teams’ assessment in practices and games.
  • *If a player is not able to be assessed and wants to join the Jr. Select level and receive SKILLS training, they are eligible to be added to the Jr. Select Black program without a formal assessment.

  • This team will be formed by invitation only based on players’ who are deemed “ready” for Jr. Select Blue based upon their assessment.
  • This team will have a paid staff coach for 2 practices a week and games on Saturdays, a SKILLS trainer 1 time a week, and will compete in the Intermediate Division. *If the ability of players is not there, we will not have a Jr. Select Blue team.
