Upping Your Mental Game

Upping Your Mental Game

Jackie Miller – Project Rise Fitness

What sets a good athlete apart from a great athlete is not their natural born abilities or the amount of time they spend training. The most successful athlete is the one that spends time strengthening their mind in addition to their body. The following are some tools to help you up your mental game!

Visualize!

See yourself winning; actively picture yourself being successful. Experience how it feels to perform masterfully, and take time to enjoy that feeling. Remember, if you can see it, you can become it!

Think Positive, Speak Positive!

If you think you can’t, you won’t. If you think you can, you will. Negative self talk is self destructive – if you believe it, you will become it whether “it” is positive or negative. In order to be great, you must believe that you can be great!

Get Gritty in the Moment!

Mental toughness is doing something difficult while staying positive and proactive, especially when you don’t feel like doing it. Focus on what’s right in front of you, and hang out in the “now.” Blur out distractions, concentrate at the task at hand, and attack it with positivity!

Use Positive Affirmations!

Tie everything together with positive affirmations. Repeat these often to take your mental game to the next level!

  • I am strong; I start strong and finish stronger
  • I will be my best in all ways, all day
  • I will stay positive even when challenged
  • I will work hard to attain my goals
  • I am gold!
