The Recreational program in Skyline is designed to continue the long tradition of Skyline’s fun, community atmosphere that has made this program “The Heart of Denver Youth Soccer Since 1965”.


  • U11 - U12 Recreational teams will participate in either the Interleague League with CO United /HRSA or Colorado Soccer Association (CSA) Recreational Leagues. U13 – U18 will play in the CSA Front Range League.


  • All teams play nine versus nine (9v9) format with goalkeepers. U11-U14 teams play 9v9 with keepers on a 9v9 size field. All U15 and older Recreational teams will play 9v9 with keepers on an 11v11 size field.


  • Each team will practice one-two times a week with their volunteer coach.


  • Games are played in a home/away format with opponents. Some travel outside of Denver and surrounding areas may be required for games.


  • Matches are refereed by certified referees or parent volunteers at this age group. Assistant Referees are not guaranteed.


  •  11U+ Recreational teams will play 7 – 8 games per season.


  • The spring season runs from March – May, and the fall season runs from August – October. During the summer and winter months, we do offer camps and clinics. For more information, please visit our Camps and Tournaments page.


Teams playing the Front Range and Advance league must comply with CSA roster limitations, age restrictions and player verification rules.


All players wear Skyline recreational uniforms on game day that can be ordered online. Games are played in a home/away format and some travel outside of Denver and surrounding areas may be required for games.


Please note, no refunds will be issued after games begin unless defined in our refund policy.

Goals & Development Focus


Skyline’s philosophy is: “To Teach, To Inspire, To Excel.” We strive to instill this philosophy in every player, at every level – regardless of their experience or age. To achieve this, we apply an age-appropriate training model as laid out by Skyline’s Player Development Plan. While players and coaches have objectives each season for player development, the main goals for the 11U-18U Recreation Program are as follows:


TECHNICAL: Players improve their ball control, ball striking, and ability to win 1v1 duels each season.

TACTICAL: Players improve their ability read the game in attack and defense each season.

PHYSICAL: Players improve their physical attributes such as speed, flexibility and endurance each season.

PSYCHOLOGICAL: Players improve their ability to work in a team environment, display respect for others (coaches, teammates, opponents, and referees), and learn life lessons each season.

OVERALL: Players enjoy playing the game of soccer that helps creates a life-long passion for soccer.

In the U11-U19 age group, we do our best to match players with their requests; however, it is not guaranteed that Skyline will be able to meet your requests. When you register, be sure to fill out the request fields so we can find a team that best fits you!


After players have registered, the Skyline staff will build out all of our teams. Here is some insight into the process:


Returning players have first priority to the team they were on previously, but they must register prior to the registration deadline. From there, we will begin rostering new players, according to player’s registration date and registration requests to teams that have space remaining. If there are enough new players, Skyline will look to build new teams. 


Skyline will work with newly formed teams to confirm a volunteer coach and practice locations/times/days. In instances where there are not enough players in an age group to form a team, Skyline will seek team formations across age groups (e.g. a combined 11U/12U Boys team. In Skyline’s history of nearly 50 years, these teams have been extremely successful. When you register be sure to fill out the request fields so we can find a team that best fits you! Always remember that we do offer refunds if we are unable to find a team that fits your family.

Skyline is an adidas club and requires Adidas uniforms to be worn on game days. The cost of the  full kit will be $79.

Although Skyline only requires certain items in your uniform kit, your player will need:


  • Shin guards: All players are required to wear shin guards during all training and matches. Shin guards are to be worn underneath soccer socks.
  • Cleats: All players are strongly encouraged to purchase cleats to wear in training and matches.
  • Soccer Ball: Skyline encourages all players to bring their soccer ball with them to all training sessions and matches. U11-U12 players use a size (4) four soccer ball. U13 and older use a size (5) five soccer ball
  • Water Bottle: All players should bring their own water to all training and matches.

How do I know which program to register my player for? When deciding whether to register your play for the recreational program or the Developmental Rec program, please consider your player’s long-term interests. If you believe that your player is interested in playing with a higher level commitment under the direction of Skyline Staff during 5 training sessions in addition to the weekly team practice, then take a strong look at the Developmental Rec program. If your player is interested in the fun, social aspect of soccer, the recreational program is more likely the right program. Either way, players are able to change programs during their soccer career (although players are not allowed to change programs during the season).


The main difference between Recreational and Developmental Rec is that a Skyline coach works with the team on team concepts, team formation, team positioning, team building. To make the team the focal point and work as a team for game day preparations. There will still be technical development involved in every session but more working as a team to build players confidence.


When will I find out what team my child is on? In the fall season, this information will be emailed to your during the second week of August. In the spring season, you will be notified during the second week of March. You will be notified of your coach’s name and practice day, time, and location. Timing of the announcement is dependent on when a volunteer coach is confirmed.


When will practices begin? Skyline receives park permits from DPR each season. Practices will begin two weeks prior to the first game. Please check the ‘Important Dates’ tab for specific dates.


Where are games played? Teams in the 11U -12U will have the option to play in the Skyline/United Inter League. You will have 4 home games at Hampden Heights or Kennedy Soccer Complex and 4 away games at Littleton or Highlands Ranch fields. Teams that would like to play in the CSA Front Range League will have 4 home games at Hampden Heights or Kennedy Soccer Complex and 4 away games in around the greater Denver Metro area.


The 13U & Older teams will play in the CSA Front Range League. You will have 4 home games at Hampden Heights or Kennedy Soccer Complex and 4 away games around the greater Denver Metro area.


How many games will we have per season? Each age group will have 8 games per season.


Can my child play up and age group? At Skyline, we do have a few players who ‘play up.’ but these players are the exception. All players who play up need approval from the Director of Coaching. When determining whether a player is ready to play up, the player must be ready soccer-wise, physically, and socially. We will not have players play up more than one age group.


How do we know if a game or practice has been rained out? Field status is on the main page of our website, www.skylinesoccer.org and closure notices will be sent through PlayMetrics.


What if my child does not get placed on a team? You will receive a full refund.


What if my team cannot make a game?

When playing in CSA leagues, teams are required to travel to all home and away games.  Teams typically have 4 home and 4 away games.  By signing the registration waiver, you agree to traveling to away games regardless of the distance.  


Colorado Soccer Association (CSA) fines clubs $500 for forfeits, and those fees will be paid by the members of the team that is forfeiting the game. Skyline will do its best to get guest players for teams who are short players or will help reschedule games where teams don't have enough players. However, Skyline will not approve forfeits and therefore the fees will be paid by the team members.

We ask that Coaches, Parents and Players fulfill their commitment and support everyone's soccer experience by participating in all home and away games.


Can I request a refund once the season has started? No refunds will be issued after games begin unless defined in our refund policy.
